Honiton Garage is a certified Vehicle Testing Centre, permitted and equipped to carry out MOT tests for cars and vans. Our mechanics are trustworthy, reliable and will be able to undertake your MOT in as little time as possible.

Tyres the next day

We offer next day delivery on all new tyres, providing that they are ordered between 9am and 1pm. If you are looking for a particular type of tyre, our team can order you in a new set within 24 hours.

Tyres supplied, fitted and balanced

We supply and fit tyres, as well as balance wheels, for all types of cars. We have in-house specialists who will fit your new tyres as well as balance your wheels, and we can also fit tyres to larger vehicles.

We stock tyres from budget manufacturers up to the more expensive manufacturers, and if you feel your car has any issues, we also offer a car check.

Honiton Garage

Our story begins in 1906

For over 50 years The Honiton Garage has been providing the people of East Devon with a professional and first class service. These are some of our old photographs, dating back to 1906.

  1. 1906

    A saddlery and harness business

    Our first photo dates back to 1906, when Honiton Garage was owned by Ernest Helliar and was in fact a horse saddlery and harness business. A workshop was set up at this time on the site of what is now the Pit Club.

  2. 1930s

    From horses to motor cars

    Helliar’s son realised automobiles were replacing horses as a mode of transport, so he decided to change the saddlery into a garage.

  3. On the high street

    Fuel, cars and charabancs

    Cars would pull up outside the shop on the high street to fill their vehicles with fuel from tankers in the shop. We also hired charabancs, an old bus used for pleasure trips, and drivers to take people out on group outings.

  4. 1945

    Gerald Harris joins as an apprentice

    In 1945 Gerald Harris joined the garage as an apprentice, and he later bought the business from Helliar.

  5. 1966

    A new site just outside Honiton

    Gerald Harris bought Honiton Garage from Helliar’s and built the new and current site just outside of Honiton, on Turks Head Lane.

  6. 1969

    Opening at Turks Head

    Honiton Garage opened on the new site with a Jet filling station, back when you could fill your tank up for just £2.50.

  7. 1972

    Pumps powered by lawn mowers

    During the day power cuts, Gerald Harris overcame the problem by using lawn mowers to power the fuel pumps.

  8. 1987

    Honiton’s first drive through car wash

    Honiton Garage opened the first drive through car wash in Honiton.

  9. 1990

    To-An-Fro vehicle hire

    To An Fro vehicle hire was opened by Honiton Garage, launched by Richard Harris in October 1990. Today To-An-Fro is our sister company.

    50 years at Turks Head

    In June 2019 we celebrated our 50th anniversary, looking back at our old photographs of the garage, dating back to 1906.
